“This country is not the country it was before World War II, and we have to find our way back.”

Larry Hembree, publisher of the Loogootee Tribune, speaking at a September 12th Tea Party rally on the square

How the country was before World War II:

  • We were in the Great Depression.
  • The National Voting Rights Act of 1965 had yet to be passed, meaning African Americans and other minorities still had 20 years of discriminatory voting practices to deal with, not to mention the rampant racism not tied to voting rights.
  • In at least ten states, Asian immigrants were ineligible to even become citizens.
  • Going back to only two decades before the start of the War, women were not allowed to vote.
  • WE WERE IN THE GREAT DEPRESSION.
