Some Trivial Thoughts on the Emmy Nominations
Ya’ll see the Emmy nominations? There’s a couple of head scratchers this year, but I am happy to see the Lost recognition, what with Mathew Fox, Terry O’Quinn, Michael Emmerson and Elizabeth Mitchell nominated, as well as Jack Bender for directing “The End”. Say what you want about how that episode succeeded writing wise and as a logical series finale, it was a great directorial effort; probably as close to the beautifully directed ”Pilot” as an episode could be. It’s also nice to see Lost nominated for best dramatic series. I’m suprised, but kind of happy to see, Mysteries of the Universe: The Dharma Initiative nominated in the special class category. Would have liked to see Parks and Recreation get nominated for best comedy. Ah well. Same story for How I Met Your Mother, but this wasn’t really their best season, so I’ll just be happy with Neil Patrick Harris getting nominated for best supporting actor. Great to see Flapjack and other Cartoon Network shows getting recognition. They’re still doing alot of quality animation over there, excluding that Total Drama Island crap. The Ricky Gervais Show and Prep and Landing should not have been nominated over Life and Times of Tim and The Venture Brothers, though. Can’t argue with any of the Variety Show nominations, they’re all deserving. It’s particuarly nice to see Conan’s Tonight Show on there. If it were me picking though, I’d have nominated Craig Ferguson instead of Bill Maher. For score, I’m hoping Michael Giacchino gets it, but it’s really great to see Shirley Walker’s DCAU crew get nominated for Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Friday Night Lights should have been nominated for best drama. It should have been every one of its seasons. Even at its worst, its one of the best dramas on network television. I am really happy to see Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton get nominated, though. They deserve not only a nomination but also a win. Zach Gilford should have been nominated for the episode “The Son.” Glad to see the writer of the episode, Rolin Jones, got nominated for it, but Gilfrod was amazing in that episode. Also, I didn’t realize Nick News with Linda Ellerbee was still around. So its nice to see it nominated, as well as that Sesame Street special When Families Grieve, which dealt with the death of Elmo’s uncle, as well documenting four real families dealing with their own losses. And, as always— boy, it’d be nice to see Supernatural get nominated for something. But that’s asking an awful lot. I don’t think the CW is considered a real channel by the voters. A more complete list of nominations can be found here.
